Social Education Employment Development Services (SEEDS) program is administered by the Tseshaht First Nation in British Columbia. The program helps Income Assistance clients help themselves through healing, education, employment and personal development. While SEEDS is open to all community members, Tseshaht's First Nations' primary target group is employable 18-34 year olds who are dependent on social programs. This is the highest represented demographic within Tseshaht.

Some outcomes that have been observed include:

All employable social development learners are required to attend monthly workshops focusing on: personal accountability, goal setting, community programs and services, healing through cultural activities, financial literacy and personal development. This requirement is consistent with the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council Social Development Policy Manual on eligibility.

Twelve grade 12 graduates are anticipated in 2010-2011 and there have been 25 Work Opportunity Program (WOP) placements since January 2010. Through the WESCan (Workplace Essential Skills Canada) Research Project, the students are being assessed against the nine Essential Work Skills employers require. Prior to completing the WES program these learners could not meet the requirements to gain entrance into their chosen programs. Since completing WES, they have been able to pass the Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES), which tests prose and document literacy, numeracy, and oral fluency, and other North Island College Assessments to enter their chosen programs.

In 2010-2011, Tseshaht First Nation has continually had 17 to 23 clients on Work Opportunity Programs (Work/Work Experience/WOP). Half of the clients have moved on to further their education or to permanent full-time employment. Tseshaht First Nation averages two new Social Development clients each month and the goal is to move them straight into a program that will prepare them for the workforce/job training/education. The current IA caseload is 65 clients, which is a significant drop from 103 clients in December 2009.
