The Saskatchewan First Nations Family and Community Institute (FNCFS Institute) was established in 2007.  The mission of the FNCFS Institute is to conduct research, deliver training and develop policies and best practice standards to support First Nations and Child and Family Services agencies in Saskatchewan.  Programs and services offered by the Institute are developed in collaboration with the agencies and are designed to increase their capacity and ability to achieve their mandates in relation to the care, development and protection of First Nations children, families and communities.  Through the collaboration with FNCFS agencies the Institute develops a yearly work plan and deliverables for funding from AANDC and the Province.  The Institute is a shared funding partnership between AANDC and the Provincial Ministry of Social Services (MSS).  The Institute is governed by a board of Directors which is made up of 8 FNCFS Directors.  AANDC and MSS sit on the Board as ex-officio – non‑voting members.  The Institute has provided and continues to offer the following training opportunities for Saskatchewan FNCFS agencies:

  1. Enhanced Prevention Focused Approach (EPFA) Performance measures development
  2. Saskatchewan FNCFS Caregivers Conference
  3. FNCFS Agency Board of Directors Training
  4. EPFA Workers Best Practice Forum
  5. FNCFS Agency Executive Director Training
  6. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
