As of 31/03/2012:

Monthly conference calls with Regional Offices scheduled. A paper on roles and responsibilities of Regions and HQ on program implementation is completed. Regions invited to contribute to proposal review process, and program staff visit Regional Offices when travelling. Program is establishing working relationships with each of the territorial governments, and established contacts with some provincial counterparts through Regional Offices to support First Nations South of 60.

2. To increase communities' awareness of funding opportunities, secure a broader range of applicants and better target funding, AANDC should:

a. Continue to proactively inform individual communities of funding opportunities.

b. Solicit applications through a formal call for proposals.

Update/Rationale:
As of 30/09/2011: AANDC has set up a formal call for proposal process, which will be launched in November 2011 (for year 2012-13).

The program is completing a study that will help better target communication on the program to the most vulnerable communities.

The communication strategy for the program was approved in September 2011.

3. To provide Aboriginal and northern communities with one-window access to funding opportunities, AANDC should explore opportunities for coordinating its call for proposals and application processes with other similar programs. Future programming (subject to renewal) will work closely with federal departments delivering complementary programs to more closely align the call for proposal and proposal application processes. Regular meetings on program coordination with HC-FNIHB, DFO, NRCan. Program staff members sit on HC-FNIHB Proposal Review Committee.

To take advantage of the climate change adaptation research that has been completed, AANDC should find additional ways to share results across communities through, for example, integrating data into the Government of Canada's International Polar Year database.
