This is an image of a clustered bar graph that illustrates (in percentage) the share of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Census Families headed by men or women living with low income before taxes, whose income is above or below the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) as of 2005. The source for the data used in the chart is: Statistics Canada, 2006 Census of Population and INAC tabulations.

The Low Income Cut Off is set at a level where families are estimated to spend 20% more than the Canadian average of their income on food, shelter and clothing.

The Y axis is measured in percentages and increases by increments of ten from 0 up to 100.

The X axis is comprised of two bars; where one bar reflects living above the LICO and one bar reflects living below the LICO. LICO information is disseminated as a comparison from left to right for the following groups: Aboriginal males; Aboriginal females; non-Aboriginal males, and non-Aboriginal females.

The percentage of Aboriginal Census families headed by Aboriginal males living above the LICO is 71.5% and below the LICOis 9.2%.

The percentage of Aboriginal Census families headed by Aboriginal females living above the LICO is 49.1% and below the LICO is 22.6%.

The percentage of non-Aboriginal Census families headed by non-Aboriginal males living above the LICO is 91.3% and below the LICO is 8.5%.
