Action Plan on Aboriginal Consultation and Accommodation

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) has implemented all of the measures and achieved the expected results identified in the Action Plan on Aboriginal Consultation and Accommodation:

Since the launch of the Action Plan in 2007, AANDC has successfully:

  • engaged with Aboriginal groups in the development of a federal approach on consultation and accommodation, and led discussions with provinces, territories and industry groups;
  • established interdepartmental mechanisms to monitor and improve coordination of consultation and accommodation practices and implementation of the Action Plan;
  • created an inventory of information on the location and nature of established and potential Aboriginal and Treaty rights; and
  • distributed consultation guidelines to federal officials and provided related training.

AANDC continues to build on its accomplishments and is committed to moving forward with the policy approach on Aboriginal consultation and accommodation.
