Mining Regulations

Crown lands in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are managed pursuant to the Territorial Lands Act   and its related Regulations, including the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Mining Regulations  . These regulations, formerly known as the "Canada Mining Regulations", deal with mineral tenure and royalties on mining production.

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada is continuing to work with the Department of Justice on proposed amendments to these regulations. The proposed amendments are intended to simplify, clarify and modernize the regulations rather than changing the fundamental principles upon which the regulations are based.
