Food Cost

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) monitors the cost of a thrifty northern food basket in isolated northern communities and in southern supply centres. The Northern Food Basket is intended to provide a nutritious diet for a family of four, consistent with the Recommended Nutrient Intakes for Canadians. Here, you can also find the results of price surveys conducted in more than 75 communities as well as charts detailing the weekly cost of the Revised Northern Food Basket for a family of four.
