To promote health and well-being, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) funds provincial-like social programs in First Nation communities including education, early childhood development, housing, family violence prevention, help for persons with disabilities and income assistance.

First Nation organizations, provinces, territories and other federal departments are partners in funding and delivering these services. AANDC provides financial support for social services in First Nation communities at levels that are reasonably comparable to those available to other Canadians. A significant amount of AANDC's annual spending is dedicated to funding basic services like social programs, education and community infrastructure.
