Symbol of the Government of Canada

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) funds and directs research and activities that address current health and safety issues associated with human exposure to contaminated sites as well as environmental contaminants in traditionally harvested foods.

What is AANDC Doing About Contaminants?

The Department's Northern Contaminated Sites Program (CSP) and Northern Contaminants Program (NCP) are both federally funded programs. The CSP is geared toward cleaning up contaminants left over from mining and military operations while the NCP responds to concerns about human exposure to elevated levels of contaminants in wildlife species that are part of a traditional diet for northern Aboriginal peoples.
