The opportunity to learn is key to personal satisfaction at work. The Government of Canada supports a learning environment and offers a variety of learning opportunities. You will find experiences and programs that encourage learning and help you build a successful career. There is also on-the-job training in the form of coaching or mentoring, regular feedback from your manager, conferences and workshops – all aimed at continuing your development in the Public Service.
INAC offers a competitive salary, supplemented with excellent medical/dental/ pension benefits, an isolated post allowance, flexible work arrangements, safe and healthy workplaces, vacation and leave, and opportunities for diversified work.
To start with, you will need your Grade 12 diploma. Previous work experience is also an asset. INAC has work in many fields and some, like geologists or environmental scientists, require university degrees.
Others, like inspectors, require a high school diploma or college degree. In the Northwest Territories, the Public Service of Canada often works closely with other government departments, Aboriginal organizations, private firms and the general public, so strong communication skills are essential. Each field requires a different set of skills. For instance, being a numbers person will help you to work in finance, and strong writing skills will help you to work in communications. All jobs involve teamwork. The ability to work well with others is essential to the Public Service. A willingness to learn and advance is very important. Through training opportunities, guidance and other support, INAC will be there with you every step of the way.
