The Environmental Assessment and Agreements Section (EAAS) of Environment and Conservation works closely with other divisions and agencies in the development and review of regulatory authorizations, environmental monitoring reports and programs, operational plans, progressive reclamation and security deposit requirements for environmental liabilities for development projects.
For projects with environmental agreements, the EAAS coordinates security deposits and closure and reclamation issues in consultation with other INAC divisions, notably Water Resources, Land Administration, Minerals and Petroleum Resources, and the District Offices. Security liabilities consistent with the Mine Site Reclamation Policy for the Northwest Territories are determined in consultation with counterparts in INAC's headquarters, the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board, the developer, and other parties as required. For projects without environmental agreements, the EAAS works with other divisions and agencies as required.
