Housing

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) provide financial assistance (subsidies) to support a portion of the costs of renovating and/or constructing homes in BC First Nations communities.

AANDC and CMHC's shared goal is to support First Nations to improve and create sustainable housing in their communities. Towards this end, First Nation governments develop and manage their own housing programs and prioritize their community's housing needs. First Nations individuals must apply to their Band's housing program for renovation and construction funds. AANDC transfers housing subsidies to First Nation governments, based on the construction and renovation priorities identified by Chief and Council.

For more information on CMHC and AANDC housing eligibility requirements, visit CMHC   or contact INAC BC Region main reception and ask to speak to a representative in Community Infrastructure.
