Planning Approach

In BC Region our key priority is to improve the quality of life for First Nations in BC. In developing plans for how we can best achieve our goal we are guided by a number of principles that are reflected in our plans.

The national mandate, roles and responsibilities of AANDC provide the overall guidance in establishing our vision for BC Region.

The AANDC Sustainable Development Strategy also provides important guidance as we establish plans and priorities for the BC Region. The Strategy outlines key principles to provide an integrated, inclusive, flexible and respectful approach to pursuing social and economic development in First Nations communities.

We have also developed the BC Region Strategic Plan 2007-2010 which builds on the national mandate and applies it to our unique BC context. The Plan describes who we are, what we do and our strategies and activities for the next several years.

In developing our Strategic Plan we gathered input from BC First Nations. We firmly believe that engaging First Nations is fundamental to achieving our goals. We continue to seek First Nations input as part of our ongoing planning and have established a joint dialogue process to formally capture this input.

BC Region is a diverse and complex environment. Our plans must adapt and evolve to changing circumstances. We will continue to work with First Nations and our other partners as we move towards the development of sustainable First Nation communities.
