First Nations Inuit Transfer Payments (FNITP)

The First Nations and Inuit Transfer Payment Project (FNITP) is an undertaking which allows Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) to build upon its ongoing work with First Nations and Inuit to improve governance and accountability.

INAC transfers funds to First Nations, Inuit, Northerners and their respective organizations to enable them to provide programs and services to their communities. The funding agreements contain specific details and how the funds must be managed. The goal of the FNITP project is therefore to build a web-enabled transfer payment management system that will provide integrated service delivery, enhanced management tools for First Nations and Inuit communities and improved accountability by providing better financial and non-financial reporting capabilities for transfer payment recipients.

The new FNITP system will assist INAC in managing funding agreement information and applying prudent cash management practices in accordance with Treasury Board requirements.
