Ottawa, Ontario (March 17, 2010) — The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, is pleased to announce Canada's approval of a funding agreement between Canada, Quebec and the Inuit of Nunavik for housing for the next five years.
“The renewal of this agreement for 2010-2015 demonstrates Canada's commitment to working with its partners towards the well-being of the Inuit of Nunavik,” said Minister Strahl. “We are committed to implementing final agreements, such as this one, as a key element in enabling social and economic development in Aboriginal communities and creating a stable environment for investment.”
The effective implementation of final agreements is key to promoting social and economic development in Aboriginal communities and creating stable investment environments. The Governments of Canada, Quebec and the Inuit of Nunavik have been working together to renew the current Nunavik Housing Agreement, which is in keeping with commitments contained in the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement.
