On May 3rd, 2010, John Pollard was appointed Canada's Chief Federal Negotiator to lead consultations and negotiations with the Government of Northwest Territories, and Aboriginal leadership in the Northwest Territories on structural changes to Land and Water Boards as part of the work on amendments to Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act and the Territorial Lands Act.
Mr. Pollard has a background in finance and has experience in resolving complex and high-profile issues in negotiations. He will apply this experience to help parties reach shared goals regarding the means for implementing the restructuring to simplify the regulatory regime system with the political leadership of the territory and territorial Aboriginal organizations.
In this role he will report regularly to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development on progress of the negotiations.
Mr. Pollard has lived in the Northwest Territories for over 30 years. He has had a broad career ranging from a business consultant, to senior administrative officer, to Minister of Finance for the Government of the Northwest Territories. He has gained great experience in his role as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Hay River. He has been an active member of the Management and Services Board. He was also elected Mayor of the Town of Hay River for two terms of two years. Today, he is a successful business leader and a well-known consultant.
