Community Priorities:

  • Health information and services
  • Economic development opportunities such as enterprise pre-development and/or employment
  • Youth participation in sport, recreation, education, employment, cultural/spiritual activities and health services.
  • Poverty
  • Housing

* These priorities are currently being reviewed as part of the reinvigoration process.

In 2008 the Saskatoon Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS) underwent a reinvigoration process. The intent of this process was to establish a community based structure that could assist in the development of a community plan, make recommendations on strategic investments, and engage the urban Aboriginal community. One of the key recommendations of this process was that two separate committees be created, a Steering Committee and an Advisory Committee.

The Steering Committee was selected by the community at an open forum on April 8, 2009 and consists of eleven representatives from the urban Aboriginal community in Saskatoon, including the following levels of government:

  • Federal
  • Provincial, and
  • Municipal.

The Saskatoon UAS Advisory Committee is currently being establish, and will provide feedback and guidance to the Steering Committee on community planning and strategic investments.

Current Activities:

The Saskatoon UAS Steering Committee is currently focused on developing its community plan and strategic investments process. This will facilitate collaboration and partnership in the community and engage the Advisory Committee. The Steering Committee will utilize the direct feedback from the Advisory Committee to assist in the development of successful strategic funding investments.

The Saskatoon UAS is also a partner in the Saskatoon Collaborative Funding Partnership. The members all use the same application form in order to make it easier for community groups to apply for funding. Partners include: City of Saskatoon - Social Services Grant, Saskatoon Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS), United Way of Saskatoon and Area - Community Initiatives Fund.
