On October, 2007 the UAS in Prince Albert undertook a community meeting where the framework for a community steering committee was established. After several community consultations, the steering committee identified the following community priorities:
The Prince Albert Urban Aboriginal Strategy (PAUAS) steering committee is currently reviewing their community plan to determine future activities and how these will relate to the national UAS priorities.
Community Involvement (federal, provincial, municipal, Aboriginal and other):
The PAUAS steering committee has engaged all three levels of government along with community representatives and representatives of local Aboriginal organizations. The Steering Committee is comprised of 3 Métis, 3 First Nations individuals, 2 youth, and 1 person with a disability. Four Elders provide guidance and support to the steering committee. There are 3 non-voting representatives from the federal, provincial and municipal governments. The Elders and government representatives have advisory roles. Representatives from the local Aboriginal organizations work with the steering committee by sitting on the selection committee for current and future steering committee members. The PAUAS steering committee continues to consult with the community and will participate in projects that meet the priorities of the community.
