Community Involvement (federal, provincial, municipal, Aboriginal and other):

In late 2002, the Calgary Urban Aboriginal Initiative (CUAI) agreed to partner with the Government of Canada in order to deliver the UAS in Calgary. The collaborative granting process was developed to assist CUAI in priorizing funders' investments in community-driven projects that align with CUAI's community plan.

A community-driven group, CUAI exists to provide ongoing discussion and coordinated action and support for Calgary's urban Aboriginal people. CUAI has eight domain groups, which consist of a broad membership from Calgary's urban Aboriginal community. Their role is to identify issues and find solutions, as well as participate in the review and priorizing of funding proposals submitted to the Calgary collaborative granting process. CUAI's coordinating committee consists of community representatives from the Domain Groups, as well as federal, provincial, municipal, private sector and charitable organizations and serves as the de facto steering committee for Calgary.
