Lethbridge

Community Priorities:

The UAS was initiated in Lethbridge on April 1, 2005.

The UAS priorities for Lethbridge are:

  • Education
  • Employment Training
  • Support Services (equitable access for all Aboriginals)
  • Housing
  • Health & Wellness
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Children & Youth
  • Seniors & Elders

Community Involvement (federal, provincial, municipal, Aboriginal and other):

The Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge (ACL), formerly known as the Aboriginal Interagency Committee, has been operating in Lethbridge since the mid 1990’s. In April 2005 the ACL agreed to partner with the Government of Canada in delivery of the UAS.

In addition to serving as the de facto UAS Steering Committee for Lethbridge, the ACL has formed partnerships with all levels of government, Aboriginal organizations, businesses, educational institutions and other key stakeholders through the Aboriginal Opportunity Initiative, with the objective of increasing employment for Aboriginal people in the city.

Operating under the shared delivery model, a Funding Review Committee makes recommendations on the UAS community investment funding proposals. This committee consists of various funders (federal, provincial, municipal), ACL Board members, two ACL staff, an elder, a youth and various community members at large.
