Porcupine Caribou Management Board

The Porcupine Caribou Management Board provides advice and makes recommendations to governments and traditional caribou users for the conservation and management of the Porcupine Herd. The Board establishes and maintains communications with Native users, governments and others to ensure Native participation in cooperative management decisions.

The Porcupine Caribou Management Agreement was established by Order in Council.

An independent Chair, appointed upon the recommendation of the Board members, presides over an eight-member Board. The federal member is appointed jointly by the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. In addition, the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development jointly confirm the appointment of the Board's nomination for Chair.
