Northwest Territories Water Board

The Northwest Territories Water Board provides for the conservation, development and utilization of water in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region in a manner that will provide the optimum benefit for all Canadians and for the residents of the Northwest Territories in particular.

The Board was created by the The Northwest Territories Waters Act 1992.

The Northwest Territories Water Board consists of four to nine members appointed by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. It is made up of at least one nominee for each of the three departments of the Government of Canada that, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, are most directly concerned with the management of water resources in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, as well as at least three nominees of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The Minister designates two members of the Board to the Chair and Vice-Chair seats.
