The Cree-Naskapi Commission is an independent body established in June 1984 under section 158 of the Cree-Naskapi (of Quebec) Act. The role of the Cree-Naskapi Commission is to receive and consider the complaint of any interested person respecting the implementation of the Act and to report its conclusions and recommendations to the interested parties and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.
The Commission is required to prepare biennial reports on the implementation of the Act and submit to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development for tabling to Parliament.
The Commissioners are recommended by the Cree Regional Authority and the Naskapi Band and appointed by Order-in-Council.
