Appointments

The Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians is responsible for making ministerial appointments or recommending Governor in Council (GiC) appointments to more than fifty different boards, commissions, tribunals, committees and advisory bodies. These appointments provide an opportunity for those interested in serving their fellow Canadians.

Accessible to all Canadians

There are two similar but distinct kinds of appointments made or recommended by the Minister:

  • Ministerial Appointments - made directly by the Minister;
  • Governor in Council appointments - made by the Governor General on the advice of the Minister and the Queen's Privy Council of Canada.

In order to have strong public institutions, the right individuals with the necessary expertise and skill sets are essential. Ministerial and GiC appointments are based on the guiding principles of competency, professionalism and accessibility to all Canadians.
