OTTAWA, Ontario (November 13, 2009) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced the reappointment of Mr. Danny Bayha as a member of the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board for a three-year term.
"Mr. Bayha has made many distinguished contributions to his field over the course of his career," said Minister Strahl. "We are proud that he will continue to serve as a member of the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board."
Mr. Bayha has served on the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board for three terms and is well-respected and trusted by the other members of the Board. He was born and raised in the Northwest Territories and has the proven experience and knowledge in resource management in the Northwest Territories, as well as traditional knowledge.
The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board carries out environmental assessments and environmental impact reviews in the Mackenzie Valley of the Northwest Territories. These measures help protect the environment and enhance the social, economic and cultural well being of Mackenzie Valley residents and of all Canadians. The board provides Northerners with a vehicle to participate in the environmental assessment decision-making process.
In order to have strong public institutions, the right individuals with the necessary expertise and skill sets are essential. Ministerial appointments are based on the guiding principles of competency, professionalism and accessibility to all Canadians.
