On June 11, 2008, Canadians will witness a very important and solemn event that will forever be etched in Canada's history books. At 3:00 p.m. (EDT), a Statement of Apology to the former students of Indian Residential Schools will be delivered by the Government of Canada in the House of Commons.

Although the Statement of Apology is an official Parliamentary function, all other business in the House of Commons on that day will be suspended in honour of this profound moment.

I invite all Canadians, especially those who attended Indian Residential Schools, to view the apology where you are most comfortable - whether at an organized gathering or in the comfort of your own home. The apology will be broadcast on Canada's major television networks and various websites. To enquire about a possible gathering in your area, please call 1-866-879-4913.

More information on the details on the Statement of Apology.
